Jihadi Jack’s parents beg for him to be returned to UK after seeing him in Syrian jail

The British terror suspect known as “Jihadi Jack” is reportedly being held with dozens of Isil prisoners in a Syrian jail.
Jack Letts, 23, was seen lying on the floor wearing an orange jumpsuit in footage broadcast on the US network CBS last week.
The Muslim convert from Oxfordshire, who has been stripped of his UK citizenship after travelling to the Middle East to join Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, was identified by his parents.
His mother Sally Lane told The Mail On Sunday: “It’s worse than my worst nightmares.”
She added: “If there is evidence he has committed a crime, then bring him home and put him on trial, and if he is guilty, send him to prison.
“But he has been in this limbo for two-and-a-half years with no end in sight.”
Letts, who is reportedly being held by the Kurdish YPG militia the city of Qamishli, denies ever being an Isil fighter.
However, he has previously admitted he was an enemy of Britain and said he would have loved to become an Isil martyr in a suicide operation.
Letts, who has dual British-Canadian nationality through his father, John, has appealed to Canada to take him.
The British decision to revoke Letts’ citizenship placed him at the centre of a diplomatic row as the Canadians have expressed disappointment at Britain for “off loading” its responsibilities.
John McKay, chair of Canada’s committee on public safety and national security, said that even if Letts came to Canada, he would escape prosecution for joining Isil through a loophole in Canadian law.
In August, a spokesman for Canada’s Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said: “There is no legal obligation to facilitate their (Isil prisoners) return. We will not expose our consular officials to undue risk in this dangerous part of the world.”
Letts, who travelled to the Middle East in 2014, is now among more than 120 dual nationals who have been stripped of their British citizenship since 2016, including Isis bride Shamima Begum.
