The president of Ukrainian engine manufacturer arrested in Ukraine

The president of the Ukrainian industrial giant Motor Sich has been arrested, suspected of collaborating with Russia, the country’s intelligence service SBU informs.

Another member of the company’s management is also to be arrested by the SBU. The names of those arrested have not been released.

Motor Sich is located in the city of Zaporizhzhya and is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of engines for airplanes and helicopters. Russia was the company’s biggest market until 2014, when the country annexed the Ukrainian Crimean peninsula. After that, ties were severed.

According to the SBU, the arrests are part of an investigation aimed at “illegal supplies of military products from Motor Sich” to the Russians. The company is accused of having collaborated with the state-owned Russian defense group Rostec.

– The suspects have established transnational channels for illegal wholesale supplies of Ukrainian aircraft engines to the attacking country, says the SBU, which says the engines are used to manufacture and repair attack helicopters.
