HNN: Iran’s embassy in Austria has accused the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, of being “two-faced” following her stance on tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The embassy responded after Kallas told China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, that restoring “tax-free freedom of navigation” in the strait is an “urgent matter,” while accusing Iran of attacks on ships that have nearly brought traffic to a halt.
In two statements, the embassy said Kallas was ignoring what it called “aggressive attacks carried out by the evil alliance of the United States and Israel against Iran,” while condemning what it described as Tehran’s “purely defensive” actions.
It also raised a legal argument, noting that Kallas had urged Iran to respect the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, even though Iran is not a party to the agreement.
“What kind of advisers surround her? A group of spineless ‘yes-men,’ no different from those who applaud Donald Trump?” the embassy wrote.
The embassy added that Iran has respected the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, yet “peaceful, safeguarded nuclear sites are still being attacked.”
