HNN: A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department stated in a press briefing on Thursday that Washington is not seeking an agreement with Tehran similar to the deal signed during the Obama administration. The spokesperson emphasized the United States’ rejection of any “flawed” or “bad” deals that fail to address current security threats.

The spokesperson explained that President Donald Trump has clearly defined his primary objectives, foremost among them the total prevention of Iran’s acquisition of a nuclear weapon. He stressed that this goal remains the top priority for the administration as it continues its military operations.

Furthermore, the administration signaled a preference for direct, face-to-face negotiations over mediated talks. The spokesperson noted that while President Trump is prepared to engage in high-level diplomacy, he will not dispatch envoys on extensive diplomatic missions “just to look at a piece of paper.” The comment indicates a firm rejection of protracted or fruitless negotiations that do not result in immediate concessions.

A key pillar of the U.S. position involves securing Iran’s existing stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Washington is seeking the total removal or neutralization of this material as a prerequisite to any permanent settlement. Simultaneously, the spokesperson affirmed the United States’ appreciation for its regional allies and partners for their ongoing coordination and support during the current naval blockade.

The State Department reiterated that the U.S. does not intend to repeat the perceived failures of previous agreements. Instead, the administration is pursuing a new, comprehensive framework that achieves its broader security goals, curtails ballistic missile development, and permanently eliminates Iran’s military nuclear capabilities.
